Meeting my Guardian Angel
I don’t recall seeing angels as a child although I do have memories from when I was very small where I used to get this odd feeling, like I was in the wrong place and had a sense that this earthly experience was just a dream, and that one day I would wake up…
I had my first ‘conscious’ angel encounter almost 20 years later in 2007. I was reading a book on the subject of angels by Diana Cooper. This book contains a collection of stories of angelic experiences by many different people. Upon reading that I could ask my angels for a sign I thought there was no time like the present, it would never have occurred to me that I might need to meditate in order raise my frequency to connect with spirit! I was also a bit cynical as I looked around the room as if to say ‘come on then give me a sign!’ to my amazement a white feather gently floated down in a see-saw motion into the center of the book – a response that more or less said ‘put that in your pipe and smoke it!’ It was such a moving experience and I was utterly astonished however I look back on that moment now and I smile at this rather bold and humorous dialogue that took place between my guardian angel and I.
Signs, symbols and repetition
My main method for communicating with angels and receiving divine guidance has always been through angel oracle cards, in fact I’ve been collecting many different card decks since 2006, the year before the aforementioned experience. It wasn’t until a series of events shook my life up in recent months that I began to think about the other ways I could communicate and ask for guidance.
I signed up to a course on working with angels that provided me with a more in depth understanding of Archangel Michael, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael and Jophiel and the ways in which they could offer protection, healing, support and guidance. I started to learn how to contact them through meditation in order to receive messages and I began to notice repetitive signs, symbols and thoughts. When I see white feathers I generally get a sense that I am on the right path and the angels are supporting me.
One of the first homework tasks I was set on the course was to find out the name of my guardian angel – it was through this process that I began to understand the power of intention. I sat down to meditate and before I began I set the intention to find out my guardian angels name. I went into a long deep meditation and after about 50 minutes I asked my guardian angel for their name. I felt as though a space opened up inside my head and the name ‘Sophia’ entered. It was magical. Over the next few days I asked my angel for confirmation that her name was indeed Sophia so that I could be sure I wasn’t ‘making it up’, I needed to see her name three times. it wasn’t until the day before I was due to return to my course that I started to see her name everywhere. I was reading an article and her name was mentioned, then I was browsing the web and I saw it again! The next day my teacher picked me up from the station and as we were driving I even noticed a salon called Sophia. When I mentioned it to my teacher she’d not noticed the shop front before even though it was in her local high street, but my eyes had been drawn straight to it.
Confirmation and acceptance
During the class that day we began talking about numerology and my teacher introduced me to a book by Dan Millman, we worked out my birth number and looked it up in this book. As I turned the pages there was a story of a woman with the same birth number as me and she was named… you guessed it… Sophia! We were so delighted and giggly, my teacher said you must say out loud now ‘I accept your name is Sophia!’ otherwise you are just going to keep on seeing it until you accept it. I took the book home with me that day and was so excited that I sat on the sofa with my hubby – we were reading about his birth number and I placed the book down and went to make some tea, we both left the room and when we returned we found a white feather placed right next to the book. I’m pretty sure he believes now too!
If you are looking to meet your guardian angel and you want to know their name, there is a meditation in Diana Cooper’s Angel Inspiration – just don’t forget to ask for confirmation, and once you get it make sure you accept it!
